There have been quite a few guys in the wrestling
biz who went by the name "The Executioner." Buddy Rose was
one at Wrestlemania I. Killer Kowalski and Big John Studd were a tag
team known as The Executioners. And then there's Terry Gordy, who portrayed
one of the more recent ones.
 |
Gordy,
who sadly passed away recently, is most famous for his days as part
of the Freebirds. However, after leaving that legendary group, he
suffered health problems with limited his ring activity, and he
dropped out of site, for the most part. During the feud between
The Undertaker and Mankind in the WWF, Mankind's manager Paul Bearer
brought in someone to aid his protoge: The Executioner. It was obvious
who this masked man was. Clad with hood and axe, Gordy was a long
way from the days of being a Southern-born hellraiser. |
The Executioner
didn't last long, and this was Gordy's last stint in a major American
fed. He did more work on the independent scene (sometimes teaming with
former partner Michael Hayes) and in Japan. He passed away earlier this
year.
Note: I hope that
no one finds the inclusion of this gimmick as any sort of attack on
the memory of Terry. I have the upmost respect for him, but I felt it
would be ok to take a look at his gimmicks.)
