You
have to feel sorry for Hector Guerrero. A member of one of the
greatest wrestling families in history, Hector always got the
short end of the stick when it came to gimmicks.
Here he is
in a typical Mexican gimmick, complete with sombrero...
Of course,
that was nothing compared to what was to come. In the mid 80's,
Jim Herd and the Crockett Productions arm of the NWA were trying
to compete with Vince McMahon and his increasingly cartoonish
WWF. To that end, they introduced Lazor-Tron. Lazor-Tron was either
from the future or from space. The future seems to be the best
guess, as The New Breed (Sean Royal and Chris Champion) came from
the future looking for him. Oh, and his gimmick was based on the
popular Lazer Tag game at the time. Guess who got drafted to fill
the role?
Yep, ol' Hector.
Now, even with such an absurd gimmick, Hector still managed to
shine through a bit. He even won the NWA light-weight belt of
the time. And then he disappeared. Now, in the history of Guerrero
Bad Gimmicks, this one is pretty rough. It outshines Chavo Jr.'s
"Pepe" days, as well as Eddie's "LWO" and
his "Latino Heat" stereotyping.
Of course,
the worst was yet to come for Hector. A few years later, he was
hired by the WWF, and fitted with another costumed gimmick. He
only made one appearance, but that was deemed one appearance too
many by most fans. And it makes Lazor-Tron seem mild by comparison.
What gimmick could be so horrible? This one...
