Give the bookers in Memphis to have the nerve to create this gimmick. While "monster" wrestlers have long plagued the arenas of west Tennessee, most were at least original concepts or based on movies. Then there was the Gravedigger. Anyone wanna take a guess as to where his inspiration came from? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

Anyway, Gravedigger didn't last very long. He showed up with his manager Nate The Rat, who paid some jobber to let 'Digger take his place in a match against Jeff Jarrett. After catching Jeff in the ropes, Nate ran out with a blowtorch and they attempted to burn the sometimes Double J.

For reasons not clear to me, Gravedigger was soon sent on his merry way. Maybe it was the fact that it was such a terribly unoriginal gimmick. Or maybe it had to with the area's relationship with the WWF, who would send the REAL Undertaker down occassionaly.

Gravedigger dropped off the map after this. To my knowledge, he is not the same guy who wrestled as Gravedigger in ICCW about a year later, nor is he the one that recently competed in Texas independent federations. According to Memphis wrestler Tony Meyers, though, the Gravedigger written about here would go on to a small amount of fame as Demolition Blast, who recently got busted on vehicular fraud scams.
