MY PHOTOS The following pages contain my collection of Central States wrestling pics that I took between late 1972 and late 1975. Considering I was an aspiring photographer between the ages of 8 and 12, the results vary...some are actually pretty good, some truly suck. Part of the problem might be the equipment...I started out with this big box camera thingy that was a hand me down (had to be from the early 60s). It was the size of a toaster, and the cause of much embarassment for me at the local matches. The flash bulb was freaky...it lit up the whole arena. Tokyo Joe took MUCH offense at this blinding flashbulb during a close up shot in 1973, chasing me around the ring and screaming. Somewhere in his diatribe of angry Japanese, I'm pretty sure sure I heard "Ya Goddamn kid!" in plain English. I think the wrestlers secretly feared the 80 lb aspiring photog with the David Cassidy 'do and the all-powerful flashbulb. I finally "graduated" to an Instamatic in 74. I finally hit the big time when I got a decent 35mm as a gift in early 75...but I lost interest in photography in early 76 (sorry Mom). I would like to thank Dr Ken Ramey and his Interns, who were always willing to strike a pose for me...that's probably why the Interns were the featured stars on my 11th birthday cake (Rufus R Jones had the honor the previous year). Kudos also to Mike George who not only posed for me, but took the time to hang out and talk to me (Unlike Lord Alfred Hayes...he was always hanging out in the lobby hitting on women).
