NWA World Champion Lou Thesz makes a January tour, successfully defending
his title against Bob Geigel in Topeka (1-2), The Viking in Wichita (1-3),
Bobo Brazil in KC (1-4), Bob Geigel in Des Moines (1-5). On his last night
as champion (1-6), Thesz teams with Bob Ellis and lose to Bob Brown &
Bob Geigel in KC. Thesz would lose the title to Gene Kiniski in St Louis
on 1-7.
Kiniskis appearances
in the area in 66 include a tough win over Cowboy Bob Ellis in KC's Municipal
Auditorium in March, teaming w/ Pat O'Connor in a losing effort against
Jack Donovan & Viking for the tag belts (KC, 8-25) and successful
November & December NWA title defenses in KC against Jack Donovan,
Mike DiBiase, Luke Graham, and Pat O'Connor.
Although title changes
are sketchy, research shows The Stomper, Bobby Shane, and Bob Brown holding
the NWA US Title in 1966.
