High flying Venezuelan wrestler Omar Atlas debuts. Omar is a mainstay during the first half of the decade, and "Mr. Excitement" is remembered as one of the top faces in Central States history. Legend has it that Omar is the brother of Cyclone Negro. Atlas had appeared in other territories (L.A., San Francisco, Texas, Florida) as Buddy Moreno, Omar Negro, and under a mask as Red Menace...1971 also marks the debut of both Black Angus and the man who many feel was the best (and most despised) manager in Central States history, Percival A. Friend. Friend was notorious for using his "loaded" briefcase on his charges opponents...

• Bob Geigel wins CS belt from Roger Kirby in St Joseph, MO (1-1)
• Harley Race defeats Geigel for CS Title
• Roger Kirby & Rock Hunter win tag titles from ? (Jan)
• NWA World Champ Dory Funk Jr goes to a NC with Seiji Sakaguchi in KC (3-27)
• Danny Littlebear leaves the area after promising to defeat Harley Race for the CS Title. Fan support and an NWA reinstatement bring him back in April (Mar).

APRIL, MAY, and JUNE
• Geigel regains CS title from Race
• Japan's Seigi Sakaguchi tours the area
• Benny Ramirez abandons The Mummy gimmick
• Race regains CS title from Geigel (June)
• Stomper destroys Race in a series of bloody non title lumberjack matches
• Bob Orton & Buddy Austin win tag titles from ? (June)
• Pat O'Connor receives his first Central States title shots. Falls to champion Harley Race (June)

JULY, AUGUST, and SEPTEMBER
• Rufus R Jones & Steve Bolus win tag titles from Orton & Austin

OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, and DECEMBER
• Yasu Fuji & Chati Yokouchi win tag titles from Rufus & Bolus
In a NWA World Title Bout in KC's Municipal Auditorium, Dory Funk Jr. beat Harley Race, 2 out of 3 falls. The ref was injured in the 3rd fall, and Pat O'Connor filled in as "sub" referee. After Pat declared Funk the winner of the 3rd fall & match, Race attacked O'Connor, upset w/ Pat's 3 count to end the match (Sept 23)
The Stomper returns to the area after a short absence (Oct)
• Harley Race and The Stomper begin what becomes one of the greatest feuds in Central States history. They sell out KC's Memorial Hall in a series of brutal matches.
